What is the ocean? It is, simply, everything. The non-human, the vacancy, the seething currents. The trembling underwater worlds. It is the expanse that surrounds humans and drowns them. It is the completion of the land's rambling, the satiation in alterity. In its embrace, no one can breathe. We must spawn gills. Oceanicity as such is life at the edge of the world. The moment before the land gives way to leagues of drifting seamless waves. The embrace of love is such a drowning, such a standing on precipices of the sand. Everything finished, ended. The flowing together of the body and all it is not. We swim in this water. We have no power to swim, not in this water.
